Our Socotra coastlines represent more than just the landscape that surrounds us; they represent our home, our haven, and a refuge for some of the rarest species in the world. Therefore, in recognition, the Hello Socotra team with the help of Clean Swell technology and instructions, together with a loyal team of volunteers, met this week to kick off our first environmental campaign in the year 2026.

A Community in Action

On a mission to renew the beauty of Hadibo’s shoreline, we were able to join forces with passionate community volunteers. It was heartening to witness young and old coming together as one, united by a common objective: to make Socotra a cleaner, healthier place.

  • The Effect: 500kg of Trash Removed The magnitude of the clean-up effort was substantial. Within one day, we were able to collect more than 500kg of waste.
  • The Trouble-Maker: Most of the litter collected was plastic waste, which is causing grave danger to our marine life, as well as the purity associated with our beaches.
  • The Result: The trash gathered has been transported to the dump sites outside of Hadibo, thus keeping the shores trash free.

Our Commitment to Socotra

Keeping Socotra beautiful including,

  • Environmental Protection: Getting involved to ensure that we protect the special environment of our island.
  • Youth Empowerment: Providing local youth with opportunities to take leadership roles, hone their skills, and provide hands-on experience in community service.
  • Local Initiatives: Supporting any movement which helps in enhancing the relationship between our people and the environment.

Looking Forward

This is just the start of the cleanup efforts for the year of 2026. We also believe that the more power we give to our community today, the more sustainable our future will be for this “Galapagos of the Indian Ocean.”

Huge thanks to all the volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and joined in. Your efforts are evident in every piece of clean sand that we see today.
